I thought that my first ever blog post should be about how MCD began and how it became what it is today. In the future I hope to be able to write my ramblings here and update you all on little bits of behind the scenes!

I’m going to start at the beginning where I was working in retail, as a duty manager, supposedly part time. I often picked up a lot of overtime and worked in a stressful, short staffed environment. I have a massive respect for retail workers, Its hard work and often underpaid!

My custom Designs was born in 2023, out of frustration and an almost mental breakdown!! I have always had a dream of being my own boss. In March 2023, I encountered a particularly ignorant manager and was brave enough to walk out of my job. At this point it was leave or breakdown. I chose myself and left to put all my effort into my dream. I knew I wanted to do something creative, I just wasn’t sure what!!

After taking some time to play around with things I could create, I started to post them on my social media. I got a positive response and friends and family started to buy what I was making. This gave me the confidence to continue. I started off with personalised acrylics, decals and cold cups. Then I made some personalised hoodies and t-shirts for myself.

In my spare time I love to listen to music and I also DJ a little online and more recently at events. From posting on my Facebook account, I started to get requests for custom clothing for events and for various artists to have their logo on hoodies and t-shirts. I realised I got a real buzz out of being in a room where people were wearing something I had made. I had found my passion, designing and making custom clothing.

Throughout my life I have suffered with anxiety and periods of depression, so mental health awareness, building people up, self-care and positivity have always been very important to me.

Tragically in August 2023 I lost my best friend after a long battle with her own mental health. Despite her battles she was the most kind and beautiful person who lit up rooms with her smile and always tried her best to help others. She was so supportive of me, always believed in me and always had something super wise or clever to say….and if that didn’t work then she could always make me laugh!!

Here at My Custom Designs our aim is to uplift and inspire others, to let them know that its ok to not be ok. To acknowledge that we are strong, we are beautiful, we are kind, we are worthy. We all have bad days, we all go through tough times, and sometimes everything is wonderful….and all of that is ok. We are all destined for big things, we just need to believe that.
